What is cloud computing?
A revolutionary new way of doing business whereby large banks of remote servers are networked so as to allow sharing of data processing tasks, centralized data storage, and online access to computer services or resources.
The best example is Google incorporating G-Mail (e-mail software), Drive (spreadsheets, word, presentations), Calender, Website Creation, Contacts and circles (sharing of information and photos with friends or colleagues).
This is information can then be accessed by anyone who is on the sharing list from any computer with internet connectivity.

Why cloud computing:
1. Reduced costs: Cloud computing reduces your hardware. You do not have to purchase expensive software programs or hardware.
2. No need for hardware hiccups: Information is stored offsite and is backed-up continuously. So if your computer is stolen or crashes you can still access from any internet connection.
3. More Mobility : Employees can access information wherever they are, rather than having to remain at their desks.
4. Remote Access: of data, presentations, spreadsheets & email can be made from anywhere in the world by employees, partners and clients. They can access, and update information wherever they are, rather than having to run back the office.
5. Even playing field for small firms: As a start-up for a new business it is low cost and easy to use. This allows small companies to compete more effectively with some of the larger businesses, balancing the playing field. Your small business can utilize the same tools that Fortune 100 companies use and can do this because with cloud computing, your business will only pay for what you need
6. Back-up of data is no longer your worry. It’s either IBM, Google, InfoStreet or Amazon and not your IT staff’s problem
7. Increased Storage: Organizations can store more data than on private computer systems.
8. Response Time: Cloud computing accomplishes a better response time in most cases than your standard server and hardware
9. It’s like Lego for grown-ups. Only better. Cloud apps allows your business to select what your company needs, when you need it and use it how you want to.
10. Allows IT to Shift Focus No longer having to worry about constant server updates and other computing issues, the IT department will be free to concentrate on innovation and automation of cloud computing services for all employees.

Pastel’s current cloud computing options:

It has functionality which enables your customers to view and settle detailed account statements online, at any time – which will suit their lifestyles. The ability to look into statement details, allocate online payments against specific items, and e-mail notifications to a debtors clerk of a customer's payment allocations, are all invaluable to speed up and simplify the reconciliation of accounts
If your data is now “in the cloud” what prevents it from being hacked, destroyed or just made freely available.
Data stored is currently at least 128 bit encrypted. For a secure E-Commerce transaction, the data being transmitted is moot after a few decades which is why 128-bit encryption is perfectly suitable since it’s considered unbreakable for the next few decades – Just Google 128 bit encryption
